Electronic Stability Programme (ESP)

ESP is the abbreviation for Electronic Stability Programme.
The purpose of the system is to assist the driver in demanding driving situations—for example, if a wild animal suddenly runs across the vehicle’s path—and to compensate for driver overreaction, helping to prevent loss of vehicle stability.

However, ESP is not intended to allow reckless driving or to defy the laws of physics.
A responsible driving style, adapted to current road and traffic conditions, therefore remains essential.

In this booklet, we explain how ESP is based on the proven Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and its related systems—TCS, EDL, EBD, and EBC—and we describe the various ESP versions used in our vehicles.
