SSP 198 – The 2.7-L V6 Biturbo Engine

Turbocharged engines have long been part of AUDI’s tradition. The current challenge for AUDI’s engineers was to develop a worthy successor to the 5-cylinder turbocharged engine.

A key development goal for the new turbocharged engine was to achieve strong dynamic response, particularly at low engine speeds.

The engineers aimed to achieve a high “basic torque level” and a torque characteristic that rises proportionally with engine speed up to its peak.
The term “basic torque level” refers to the torque that is immediately available when the throttle is opened, for example at part throttle or during overrun.
