SSP 086 – Anti-lock Braking System (Bosch) in the Volkswagen Transporter
INDEX
The Bosch anti-lock braking system is now being installed for the first time in the Volkswagen Transporter and Caravelle models.
The hydraulic unit, the control unit, and the combination relay are housed in the left seat box and are sound-insulated. The hydraulic unit is connected to the tandem master cylinder and the wheel brake cylinders via brake lines.
The standard braking system—featuring floating caliper disc brakes at the front, drum brakes at the rear, and a deceleration-dependent brake pressure regulator—has been retained without changes.
A safety circuit in the control unit ensures continuous monitoring of the anti-lock braking system. If a fault occurs in the system, the control unit switches the anti-lock braking system off. In this case, the full functionality of the normal braking system is maintained.
The syncro models are additionally equipped with an acceleration switch (G-switch). This acceleration switch is also located in the seat box and is connected to the control unit and the combination relay.
