The turbo spark-ignition engine of the new “Audi 200 Turbo” represents state-of-the-art technology through a combination of several measures:
5-cylinder spark-ignition engine with 8.8:1 compression ratio
K-Jetronic fuel injection system
Intercooling (Charge air cooling)
Exhaust gas turbocharger
Fully electronic ignition with knock control
Overrun fuel cutoff
Idle air control (Idle charge regulation)
Air-shrouded fuel injectors
Lowered idle speed
All of these added technologies were utilized partly to increase performance, but predominantly to reduce fuel consumption and decrease pollutants in the exhaust gas.
