SSP 033 – Pneumatic Cruise Control
INDEX
The cruise control system allows the driver to travel long distances with greater concentration and less fatigue. It is not a luxury, but an essential factor of active safety. In addition, maintaining a constant speed results in favorable fuel consumption.
The pneumatic cruise control system is currently installed as an optional feature (M-equipment) in the following vehicles:
Audi 200
Audi 100 5-door and Audi 100 right-hand drive
This system operates using vacuum.
Operation is via a switch on the turn-signal/high-beam stalk. An inductive sender on the speedometer supplies information about the vehicle speed to the control unit.
Based on the pulses processed by the control unit, the control unit generates vacuum for the actuator.
The actuator operates the throttle valve or the control lever of the fuel injection pump, thereby regulating vehicle speed.
Quick-venting valves interrupt cruise control operation when braking or depressing the clutch.
