SSP 123 – Sliding sunroof with preselection automatic control

The sunroof—now increasingly designed as a sliding/tilting roof with electric drive—is one of the most popular optional features. It offers a high level of ventilation comfort, as the roof opening can be quickly adapted to climate conditions and driving speed. Selection is made simply by pressing a button.

However, the button does not provide feedback on the roof position, so only a glance toward the headliner—distracting the driver from the driving task—indicates how the desired position must be corrected. Adjusting the roof can occupy the driver’s attention for up to 10 seconds and therefore represents a safety risk.

The preselection automatic system relieves the driver, allows the sunroof operation to be linked with other vehicle functions, and includes an automatic lid reversal feature if increased resistance is detected, for example due to a foreign object in the roof opening.
